What does it mean to be an Honored Kid?
Honored Kids and families are the drive behind St. Baldrick’s’ mission to fund life-saving childhood cancer. When a child is registered as an Honored Kid, we hope to provide that child and family a unique platform to: share their remarkable stories; serve as advocates to raise awareness for childhood cancer and the need for research funding; and become a part of a special community of families and supporters where they can champion the cause together.
What is a St. Baldrick’s Ambassador?
Ambassador Kids represent the thousands of children who have been impacted by childhood cancers by serving as one of the faces of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation for the entire event year. Some of the duties of an Ambassador Kid and their family include: attending and speaking at local St. Baldrick’s events, participating in media interviews and videos, writing blogs, providing updates for social media, and thanking constituents. Visit our Ambassador website to learn more about our current Ambassadors.
My child is already registered online from a previous year. Do I need to reregister him/her?
No. Each honored kid's page is carried over from year to year. To make any updates, sign in to your Members Area and click "Dashboard" at the top. Select your child's name under "Kids" to be taken to your kid's page where you will be able to edit all the details directly on the page.
I'm getting emails from St. Baldrick's participants regarding my Honored Kid. Is this OK?
Yes. At the time of registration, you have the option to choose if you would like to receive emails from people participating in your child's honor. Emails are sent from our secured website and your information is not shared. If you would like to change your communication preference, please contact us.
How do I honor a child that doesn't have a profile on the website?
The child must first be registered through the St. Baldrick's website. Any friend or a legal guardian can register the child by going to Sign Up an Honored Kid. Before the child's profile is made active, the St. Baldrick's Foundation will need a signed Honored Kids Agreement from the child's legal guardian. Instructions on how to submit the agreement will be sent in a registration confirmation email. Once the child's page has been activated, you can honor the child through your event, fundraiser, team, or participant (shavee or volunteer) page. Please note that only the event organizer, team captain, or participant can connect a child to the respective pages. If you want to honor a kid who is not currently registered on the St. Baldrick’s website, you may list his or her first name in your personal website message.
I am a participant wanting to honor a child, how do I go about doing that?
Sign in to your Members Area with your username and password. Click the blue "View and Edit My Page" button. Scroll down to the section called "St. Baldrick's Kids" and click the pencil icon next to it. You will be able to search and select the child you would like to honor.
Does the money raised from the event go to the Honored Kid?
The money raised does not go to the Honored Kid directly. Grant funds are distributed to institutions for laboratory research and to help make clinical trials available to more kids than ever, providing treatment that offers the best chance for a cure. Fellows and Scholars are funded to encourage the best and brightest doctors to pursue careers in childhood cancer research. Your support truly makes a difference for all kids with cancer!
